My photo
I paint small metal and plastic figures and rarely get to play with them. But that is fine with me.

Horace, Knud and the Jacob Sheep

A few random mini's cleared off the Mountain this weekend, painted to a table top standard.

The first is an old early 80's Dungeons and Dragons Cleric by TSR. A lovely little sculpt, though somewhat smaller than current larger sculpts, being 25mm rather than 28/32mm. Regardless, he/she will be added to the rpg collection for the next game I run. (Whenever that will be.) I call him Horace - that seems to be a good name for a do-gooder cleric type.

No eyes painted on this one, that cowl hangs down too much to make it worth my while in attempting. Also, the sculpted detail about the neck of the tabard I think is supposed to be a necklace(?), but the detail is so soft I elected to just keep it the same colour as the tabard.

Wasn't going to struggle to clip the integral base off so it looks like this cleric is on a step of sorts. Which works for me and will help it match better with the other fantasy figs in my collection height wise.

Next up is a little Kobold mini by Ral Partha from the mid 90's. I owned this mini for almost 30 years before I put paint to him - Shame on me. Kobolds seem to have gone through a transformation in design from their early iteration in Dungeons and Dragons, turning from little large-headed underground "men" to now, flat-out tiny dragon people. This fellow seems to be in the middle of that transformation, part little man, part scaly thing with a tail. I named him Knud, though gawds know why, in game Kobolds tend to die if a player even breathes on them so naming one could seem pointless!

If he has an eyepatch, it must mean he's "Dead 'ard" and survived a battle or two right!?

More likely he just cut himself shaving!
I have another 2 or 3 of this style kobold sculpts in the paint queue.

Last up for this post is a nice small flock of Jacob Sheep. These fleecy fellows are by an unknown producer (Feel free to shout out if you recognise them in the comments as I'd love to give credit where it's due.) and are a bit soft in detail, but for "sheep" they'll do nicely. I chose this breed of sheep primarily for my Dark Ages project, but they'll do just fine for fantasy and other historical periods. Kept the paint jobs very simple on these as essentially the base is just a scenic element or at best an objective. The pics are a bit naff, but they'll do and I'm happy to see this little flock off the Mountain.

Hoping to get another couple figs painted and posted in the next week or so so watch this space!

Stay safe out there all. It's a nasty time of life.

Comrade! (Part 24 - Some More Soviet Veterans and a few other things)

These guys were staring at me with accusatory glares for being unfinished so I grabbed these three and got them off the painting queue. Pic is a bit naff, but I'll take better ones once the whole squad is finished. Two more and then I'll move on to those often talked about Winter Germans. Finally.

Also got this small pile of crates scatter terrain thing done. Wanted it to be useful for more than on game, hence it didn't get the Winter treatment. Found it in the bargain case at my LGS for a very reasonable price about a year ago.

Soviets are in this pic to give you an idea of scale.
Last, I based up and prepped this lot of random stuff. They are going to get sprayed with primer this evening - a random assortment of Games Workshop stuff including both old and new sculpts, a trio of barrels to at to my scatter terrain collection, a WW2 Winter German MG team, a herd of Dark Ages sheep, some books (On pins) for those bookshelves I showed off recently and a robo-thing on the far left that I took from one of my son's old action figure collection.

Cheers for looking. :)

Blackeyed Betty

I will say this now - I really dislike trying to paint Anime style eyes. 💀💀💀

And, as you'll see below it shows. So apologies right up front for the shitty effort at painting them, I do very much intend to return to fix them at a later date when I am not nearing the urge to just feed her to an effin' blender.

Here's Betty, partner to previously shown Lug. She's a mechanic and Pit Boss to a racing team in the Relic Knights setting. That big yellow and grey gun thing she's toting is also some sort of future-tech wrench I believe. I tried to stick with the studio scheme to match Lug's paintjob and the illustration above. Painting chequers is a pain in the arse by the way when your brushpoints are all shot to bollocks.

*edit* I just realised that I forgot to paint the lenses of her goggles!

Also picked up very affordably a Reaper Bones "Pillar of Evil", which was a stupid quick paintjob. Wanted it to look a bit like alabaster or some such. It has three sides, but all are identical. Wanted to test out Reaper's claim that their Bones plastic "needs no primer prior to painting", guess they were correct, at least on this piece. Very cool. Will make a nice rpg item of interest or something I can stick in photos of minis as background decor.

Also, after Simon posted up his lovely Dark Ages sheep at his blog from www.war-bases.co.uk, I just had to get a set. And I got a set of geese. and a wee pack of wolves. And a pair of Highland coos and their coo calf. Blame Simon and visit his blog - he churns out a lot of cool stuff and it's a varied so there'll be something for everyone's gaming blog tastes!
