Wasn't expecting to get any hobby time recently, but this hot and sweaty weekend provided me a few hours whilst watching some World Cup action.
I managed to get this little 3D printed Quar "Caerten" (Captain-like rank) mostly painted up for my Fidwog. Not sure I am sold on the colours of his spots(?) and he needs a spray of dulcote, but he's about 99% done I feel.

Caerten Pyr'sen himself would never partake of spirits, but a hot and strong cup of coffee can be regularly found in his possession as he strides about the garrison checking on his men.

This Quar's left arm is part of a bits kit that I thought would be a perfect addition for an old officer who is unconcerned with any dangers that might be present.

(No) Prize for anyone who can identify where I got his scabbarded sword from? *
Along with the Caerten, I also managed to put together this lot for the next round of basing, primer and then paint.

Also a not-prize for any who might be able to identify that oil can on the Squad tractor? **
Lots to get on with, but I have to say, these little weirdos are very fun to construct and paint up. A nice break from the drab colours of WW2.
Hope all are safe and well out there and let's hope USA can keep up that great level of play in the World Cup!
- Dai
* The Scabbarded sword is actually an old Warhammer40K Catachan Guard bit that was molded with an attached water bottle which I carefully cut off.
** The Oil Can comes from the old original Warhammer40K Space Orks plastic kit that I owned as a lad. Sometimes keeping random bits for 40 years pays off?
*** Post Script: Seems the issue of posts not popping up on blog rolls has hit this little blog too. Guess I'll wait and see how it all plays out, and I'll research if there's a fix or some such in the meantime. Frustrating!

Lovely Quar commander and nice additional progress, just primed a figure Ive had for something like 47 years!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
47 years! Wow! Can't wait to see what it is!
DeleteThanks Iain.
The sword bit looked familiar, the oil can definitely not. It's amazing what can be found in bits boxes!
ReplyDeleteMy bits box is deep and varied. I'm not even entirely sure what's in there...
DeleteNice work Dai! Personally I would prefer WW2 Greeks, but your little Quar is nicely painted for sure!
ReplyDeleteThanks Keith. No worries, these weird anteaters aren't for everyone, I get it.
DeleteSmashing work on the red coated fellow. Looks like this post was delayed by about 30 hours!
ReplyDeleteCheers Jon - rather annoying. I thought I'd managed to avoid that issue, but I guess it is what it is.
DeleteTons of character in your latest Quar Dai, I think the spots work really well, and spots within spots is just showing off ! LOL Great progress on the other models as well. Hopefully the delays sort themselves out soon.
ReplyDeleteGlad you like him Dave. I've realised I'm far too lazy to redo them, so the spots stay!
DeleteI will just have to be patient when posting.
A nice figure Dai and some ‘cute’ additions to the quar arsenal !
ReplyDeleteAppreciate the kind words Matt. Am hoping to get some more done to them this weekend if the wife and the World Cup allows!
DeleteFantastic work!
ReplyDeleteCheers Michal!
DeleteWhat a wonderful chap, so much character squeezed in there. I do love the look of these, but most resist starting anything new.
ReplyDeleteThese Quar are full of character for sure. I can understand your hesitation on picking some up with your very limited hobby time, though feel it's a shame as I'm sure you'd paint these kits up very nicely.
DeleteThere's a distinct Vostroyan Firstborn vibe to that Quar, Dai, which should definitely make him stand out on the battlefield. Excellent work.
ReplyDeleteHadn't considered that prior, but I like it. Vostroyan were/are a very distinct Guard regiment for sure and one of the coolest GW produced I think. Thanks loads Simon.
DeleteHe looks great Dai. His pimples look eminently 'poppable', hahahaha!!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes, James
Yeah, I was worried they looked like that. Still thinking whether to change them....
DeleteThanks James!
