I paint small metal and plastic figures and rarely get to play with them. But that is fine with me.

3rd Awr-Range Wardens (Quar Fidwogs - Part 10)

Sadly not enough time for painting but I did get this lot assembled, basing and primer applied this weekend. There’s a backlog of these doughty little fellahs building so I hope I’ll have a chance to get more painted and table ready in the coming months.

From left to right: Pykpyk (A type of messenger squirrel), Musician, is-Caertren (a junior Lieutenant), Pykpyk Controller, more Pykpyks and a Standard Bearer.

In this photo is a "Scout Cadier". Cadiers are essentially the horse-ish beast that Quar use for cavalry mounts and as typical beasts of burden. This one has a medium Machinegun mounted howdah on it's back, which should make for a very mobile support piece on the battlefield. The two foot-mounted chaps next to it are the "Dismounted" versions for if the mount is shot from under them! (You can make a command  version too, which loses the machinegun, but offers a very mobile officer option instead that I think I'll make next.)

Not sure of when I'll find time to paint these up as my weekends are about to get very busy with first my birthday (50th!!!) this weekend, well, Tuesday 20th but I'm taking some days off, followed by family stuff the next and the one after that potentially a house move. So lots going on my end.

Hope all are safe and well out there,

- Dai

  2. Happy Birthday Dai, and those Quar look suitably odd - especially the beast of burden and its heavy weapon howdah. I have a friend very close to plunging into the Quar range, so will point this out to him.

    1. Thanks Simon, I think the odd-factor is what makes them so appealing for me. Hope your friend does "plunge"! There's a new starter set about to be released on the WargamesAtlantic website this very Friday so his timing couldn't be more perfect.

  4. Happy birthday in advance! Mine's the day before!

I love Zombiesmiths stuff, it's so uniquely different from the usual miniatures companies stuff. I hope that he'll eventually release the War of Ashes figures in plastic as I've got a fair few of the old pewter ones and even made a few of my own and loved how characterful they are!

    1. O wow, quite the coincidence. A very happy birthday to you as well mate!
Agreed on Zombiesmith designs. I totally see the War of Ashes figs being right up your alley. The creator, Josh has mentioned that that range will be getting some attention but no firm date of when.

  5. Well, Happy 50th, mate - its 14 years since I was that young! A potential house move - that sounds like a pain in the proverbial - unless, of course, you end up somewhere with the room for a dedicated gaming room!

    1. Thanks everso Keith! Sadly not dedicated hobby or gaming space, so that's still a dream for the future, but this place is at least 4 times as large as where we are at right now, so it's going to feel luxurious.

    1. Thanks so much Dave! I hate moving too. I've moved so much in my life though, it's becoming second nature.

I'm looking forward to painting this lot too. I like that there's a lot of individuality amongst the sculpts, so that should make for a interesting paintjobs.
